Oceantecs Hartlepool - providers of offshore services

Oceantecs offer the same professional services to the Renewable Energy market as we do to Submarine Cable and offshore Oil and Gas industries.

The Company can offer the experience to assist your project, from early development stages to construction and installation. We realise, that as a new offshore industry, the offshore renewable energy market needs the experience gained in years of offshore construction to help carry out operations in safe and cost effective manner, utilising the right people, the right equipment at the right time. Oceantecs can provide this experience.

MERMADE

Oceantecs have also been researching and developing a tidal flow/current turbine 'Mermade'. Unlike most subsurface turbines, which can only be mounted vertically, Mermade can be mounted vertically or horizontally, with little or no effect to performance, it also means that it can be installed in shallower waters. 'Mermade' can be utilised in the open sea, rivers, or lakes if there is a sufficient water flow.

One of the main advantages of 'Mermade' is that it can be used in conjunction with other offshore/subsurface structures, such as wind turbines, bridge supports, jacket legs etc. Or it can be installed as stand alone unit in an array, forming a field of turbines.

Existing offshore wind farms are approximately 55% efficient due to the lack of wind, or the turbines being turned off if winds speeds are to high. If 'Mermade' were to be mounted at the bottom of a wind turbine monopile, using the same infrastructure, there will be a long-term predicatable power output to supplement the power output from the wind turbines.

Although 'Mermade' is still in the development stages, 2006 will see the construction of a scale model for dry and wet testing. Further developments soon.
